Project Plex-Box

Behold! The most ultimate XBox in the whole world.  After growing tired with the dull black appearence of my XBox (even with the green lighting skin added) I decided to spruce it up a bit.  What the hell, seems I've been modding anything I can get my hands on anyways.  Look in amazment of my leet modding skillz.

Here is an origonal, unmodified Microsoft XBox. This simply will not work for me...

This is my XBox before the mods. I like the vinyl skin, but it doesn't light up, and that's a problem for me...

My XBox is naked!!! Beleive it or not, it is turned on and working in this pic.

Here is the motherboard mounted on some plastic mesh, over the bottom panel of the case.

Here is the bottom, left and right panels, along with the rear 80mm fan and power supply mounted up.

I spent some time and rigged up this bitchin 6 position DP rotary switch to controll the speed (and noise) of the fans. On high, it moves about 3 times as much air as stock.

This is the rear 80mm crystal fan. Like everythign else I get my hands on, I added LEDs to it (Daytime Image)! Notice the prototype PleX-box written on the side.

Same image, but in the dark, the way all mods are meant to be viewed.

This is the second teir of the Xbox, and this is the underside. The long glass tube is a green Cold Cathode FLourescent Light (CCFL) and a 620v DC inverter to power it.

You are now looking at the top of the second tier. It contains the Thompson DVD-ROM drive, and a 10Gb Western Digital hard drive. Also is the power-good light, under the red geodesic dome.

The partially assembled XBox. Front view, daytime shot.

The partially assembled XBox. Rear view, daytime shot. I will remove the protective film later.

The partially assembled Xbox. Front view, night shot. This bathes everything nearby in a soothing green glow.

More green goodness, rear view.

Here is the top panel. The X2 logo has been engraved using a dremel and a router base (favorite font: Descent ][ Logo). There is more black plastic mesh underneith.

Here is the underside of the top panel. Noice the wires and the 4 pin molex connect which powers 3 GaP (green) LEDs in serial.

Here is the top panel lit up. Extreme green.

All I need to do now is the front panel. Looks pretty cool even when turned off.

A more detailed look on the inside.

Words are not needed to properly express it's coolness.

A look on the inside when it is lit up.

Here is the controll panel. The red button is power, the black is eject, the top LED is error, the lower LED is power, and the keyswitch to the right can be used to disable all the controlls with the appropiate key.

The entire front panel assembled. Complete with LEDs to help illuminate the controll ports and such.

Just a shot of the DVD drive in an ejected state. Plenty of space to offer access to the try, which is the safely retracted inside the case.

This is my friend Brad Price, having the honor of doing the "Grand Unveiling" of the xbox, as he removes the final piece of protective film.

The Final picture. Project Plex-Box is a sucess. Look for it to go on sale on ebay soon!

A shot from a slightly different angle. I am the God of modding, now if only god had a better camera...

Thank you for your interest in Project Plex-Box, I hope you enjoy these pics as much as I do. If you have any questions, please email me at josh@nerdpoints.net
